Any program arranged for a university or group to accommodate specific academic and/or programmatic requests. This may be a faculty-led program or a program arranged to meet the needs of a particular group such as advanced language students, freshmen, soccer players, etc.

CEA Global Education will make every effort to complete the planning process within your institution’s deadlines. Generally, we suggest that planning starts at least one year prior to the proposed program start date so that approval can go through all the proper university channels. Custom programs can be designed for any of the CEA Global Education destinations. CEA Global Campus locations offer the most flexibility with faculty-led arrangements; however CEA will work with you to create your ideal custom program in any of our locations. We also offer custom program options in Krakow, Poland and St. Petersburg, Russia; contact a University Relations representative to enquire about these destinations.

Program lengths are variable depending on the institution. CEA Global Education is able to create customized programs that last anywhere from 1 week to a full academic year.

Student participation is based on CEA Global Education’s general participation requirements: a minimum 2.5 GPA and at least 18 years old. It is up to the host institution to designate who will have permission to enroll in your custom program. Some universities offer custom programs open to all students from the home institution, the home state system, or even open enrollment to the entire nation.

Depending on how the academic structure is designed, students have the option to receive credit from CEA’s academic institution of record, the University of New Haven, or from their home institution. Generally, for faculty-led programs transcripts will come from the home institution. For programs and courses developed by our CEA Global Campus staff, transcripts will come from UNH. Dual credit options also are available for credit from the home institution plus UNH or a partner institution.

Yes! CEA offers every student a comprehensive international health insurance plan, which is included with the program costs. After the withdrawal date for your program, when all students participating in your program are paid in full, you will be registered for CEA Insurance through HTH Worldwide. This comprehensive medical insurance plan covers a maximum of $250,000 for any illness or accident abroad and does not carry a deductible. Coverage includes most medical expenses, emergency evacuation and a full range of 24-hour medical assistance.

Yes, faculty also may register for HTH through CEA Global Education. Rates vary depending upon age and this will be at an additional cost to the faculty or the university, but the same comprehensive international service is available and CEA can assist in making sure faculty are covered for the program duration.

The academics of your custom program are completely up to you! Institutions may bring faculty from the home institution who will conduct classes on site. Or CEA Global Education can do everything for you from working with your institution to approve existing CEA courses as direct or transfer credit, to creating new courses to meet your curricular needs, approving new courses for UNH transfer credit and finding on-site faculty to teach it. Or you can choose to have students take courses from both your faculty member and CEA faculty and receive direct, UNH, or dual credit.

The number of credits earned is completely up to you. In general, a standard 3-credit hour course is equivalent to 45 contact hours (Note: The “academic hour” in the USA is generally considered 50 minutes, thus equaling 37.5 total teaching hours per 3-credit hour course). CEA Global Education suggests that site visits and excursions be factored into this credit calculation as these experiential learning opportunities are part of why study abroad is such a valuable experience.

Collaboration with other universities is up to your discretion. Some schools restrict programs to students only from their institution, while others open enrollment to their university system, other schools within their consortium or any student from any institution.

CEA can provide housing for students and staff at all CEA locations. Pricing differs depending on the area and type of accommodations. CEA will assist in arranging housing accommodations for all faculty attending the program as well if desired. In most locations, student housing options include home stay, residence hall or apartment-style housing, but additional options may be available. Faculty will be provided housing in the cost of the program for the equivalent of a one-bedroom apartment or single hotel room. Faculty may choose to upgrade housing if they desire, but this will be at an additional cost to the university or faculty directly and will not be included in the per student pricing.

CEA Global Education has standard inclusions that are a part of all programs such as: onsite orientation, social and immersion activities, HTH health insurance, cell phones and online enrollment processes. We can customize other program components such as the academics, excursions, housing and additional CEA services, including marketing, pre-departure orientations and training, to best meet the needs of your institution.

The minimum number of students depends on several variables, including destination, number of faculty participating from the home institution, number of courses, etc. Typically custom programming requires no less than 10 or 15 students, however programs usually become more cost effective at higher number of student participants and we may set a higher target enrollment range. Feel free to submit a proposal to CEA Global Education as soon as possible so our staff can help figure out the parameters for your desired program.

The purpose of a proposal is to give CEA Global Education an idea of parameters and outcomes, specifically, you are seeking. Any and all detail requests are welcome. We will try our best to accommodate them all within reason. Customize any aspect of your program including: duration, transcription, teaching, enrollment, application and billing, social and cultural immersion activities, excursions, housing, meals and more!
