CEA’s Global Issues Seminar for Faculty 2010!

“Sustainable Development and the Global City” – Madrid, Spain (June 13-22, 2010)

CEA’s Global Issues Seminars (GIS) for Faculty focus on contemporary issues in culturally rich and politically important urban settings. Madrid, Spain, is such a setting. Known across Europe for its “green” initiatives, Madrid is also the political capital of a diverse country, regionally and ethnically.

The main purpose of the GIS is to offer faculty who teach undergraduate courses the opportunity to learn first-hand about leading issues that will drive developments in the 21st century. Returning participants will, in turn, increase opportunities for both students and faculty colleagues on the home campus by sharing this new knowledge. The GIS is thus intended for faculty who are open to internationalize their teaching – to blend a global component into a course or to refocus a course on a global issue. We hope that faculty see that one element of raising global awareness among their students is encouraging them to study abroad.

In June 2010, CEA presents “Sustainable Development and the Global City” in Madrid, Spain. Home to one of CEA’s Global Campuses, Madrid offers unusual opportunities to discuss environmental initiatives with academic experts, government officials, EU agencies, non-profit advocates and citizen groups. Presenters will show how experiments in the city and in surrounding regions are part of a national plan to develop new sources of energy and conserve current ones, while protecting the environment. The challenges are immense, but Spain intends to lead the way to a sustainable future.

Eligibility: All college and university faculty are eligible for this program. Preference will be given to faculty with undergraduate teaching responsibilities.

Application Deadline: Extended to April 1, 2010
